Double Isolation (2021-2022)

Double Isolation (2021) is a body of work exploring the liminal mental states of foreigners and some Singaporeans during the COVID-19 pandemic. These individuals face adverse effects on their inner state due to movement restrictions and the closure of national borders. The installation uses Schlieren Photography to visualize sound waves as participants express their mindsets, which are printed in A2 size posters and also displayed on a loop in an audio-video installation. These are accompanied by transcripts, images, and artifacts of “comfort” from the lockdown period. The unique photography methodology offers a glimpse of reality not typically seen, capturing the presence of participants and challenging traditional visual representations.

Exhibitions and Presentations

Lasalle Winstedt (2nd Year Final Exhibition) 2021: After a year of research, I presented my final work for the end-of-second-year finals in our school studio. The presentation was meticulously crafted, with special attention given to the handmade tables and setting that created an archive-like setting for the display.

Starch Open Studios (2021): At Starch, the open studio format enabled the presentation and investigation of ongoing research projects. Utilizing the spacious setting with high ceilings, I opted to upscale my work and print it on a large piece of cloth and also conduct live demonstrations of the technique.

Hybrid: Science and Experimentation (2022): This was an international online open call curated by Felicita Russo and Maciej Zapiór, featuring 9 artists who drew inspiration from science for their photographic works, alongside scientists who creatively used visual outputs. The online exhibition took place on the digital platform Artsteps.
